Within the Daniel Smith watercolour range there are 30 colours produced with pigments mined from the earth. These PrimaTek paints have minerals sourced from locations as far flung as Brazil, Alaska, Australia, Canada and Africa. Colours that date back to prehistoric times are beautifully revived by Daniel Smith for artists working today. Colours include Amethyst Genuine, Burnt Tiger's Eye Genuine, Garnet Genuine, and Lapis Lazuli Genuine, amongst many others.

Also in the range are Quinacridones, vibrant colours produced with modern technology. These synthetic organic compounds have a brilliance, lightfastness and clarity that traditional pigments cannot achieve. The Quinacridone family is a group of warm coloured paints. They range from yellow gold colours, through siennas and pinks, to deep violet shades. The chemical structure of these compounds yields the reddish colour that can be seen as an undertone in all these pigments.
