This volume compares the writing of national histories in relation to the histories of ethnicity/race, class, religion and gender in 19th- and 20th-Century Europe. It covers both Western, Eastern, Northern and Southern Europe and connects the formation of national identity to ethnic, religious, class and gender identities. It allows vantage points on why particular national narratives were more successful than others.
