I so badly wanted to love this....but I just don't. Maybe it was the hype or my own unfair expectations, but it just wasn't what I was expecting. The plot was amazing, but the actual story was more sad and depressing than the whimsy and fantasy I was looking forward to. The story was in no way terrible or badly written - just a tad darker and sadder than I expected with so little happiness to lighten the load. Schwab is still one of my favourite authors out there but I think I'm still waiting for something that can stand up to her Darker Shades trilogy 路♀️
